how to swap heads using PhotoMerge in Photoshop Elements

Ah, kids. They're swell, right? Except when they're not. Like when you're all in the car together and someone won't stop humming and someone else won't stop poking people and someone else needs to become to the bathroom reallyreally bad. Or when they go out Legos out for you to pace on in the eye of the night. Or when you but want ane picture where everyone is looking at the camera and grin at the aforementioned time. It's difficult enough to get two kids to both look at the photographic camera, simply I have five. Getting a dandy photo of anybody is less likely than getting struck past lightning, and sometimes I'd rather get struck past lightning than even try.

Which is why I nearly cried with relief when I started playing effectually with Photomerge in Adobe Photoshop Elements fifteen. You can bandy heads in about ten seconds! Seriously, it's astonishing. So wonderful that I almost broke out my favorite water ice foam and shared it with all the children to celebrate. (Ya, just kidding on that one. There'due south now way I'g going to share my expensive ice cream with them. It'south nonetheless hidden in the freezer backside the vegetables.)

Photos showing head swap to get the best group picture of multiple children

Today I'm going to show you how to take i photograph where one person looks adept and other photos where the balance of the people await proficient and merge them together into an astonishing group shot using Photoshop Elements xv. Don't accept Photoshop Elements 15? Don't worry, you can click here to effort it for costless for 30 days!

Once you've started your trial, y'all'll exist able to swap heads in seconds. Similar this:

Two photos of a girl and boy merged to make a better photo where both are looking at the camera and smiling.

Or this:

Two photos of a father and son merged to get a photo where both are have open eyes and are smiling

Or even this:

Three group photos of five children, merged together to make a final photo where everyone is looking at the camer and smiling

Now maybe I tin cease yelling at my kids to but await at me and smile for heaven's sake!when I'm photographing them. Not that I yell. Everrrrr.

To swap a caput from one photo to another, y'all'll apply the Photomerge Group Shot Guided Edit.

Guided edit menu in Photoshop Elements

The Guided Edits get in actually easy to apply all sorts of absurd effects to your photos with hardly whatsoever work (color heave, crop, convert to B&W, add a speed pan, etc.) For this caput swap, all yous have to practice is depict a circle. Seriously. This video shows you how information technology works:

Nifty, eh? A total time (and sanity) saver.

At present, as yous saw in the video, while the head swap works pretty well most of the time, there are times when the merge isn't perfect on the first try. Here are a few tips to help yous accept success:

  • When you're taking pictures, take quite a few right in a row, without changing your position or zooming in or out. Photomerge Group Shot works extremely well on photos where anybody is in the same position merely yous merely need to swap faces. It's harder to merge 2 photos in which the people have changed position.
  • During the edit, try to outline (on the source photo) merely the portion y'all want transferred onto the final photo. If yous draw a big circle, you may cease upward with more than portions of the source photo merged onto the last photograph than you intended.
  • If too much of the source photo does become merged onto the terminal photograph, utilise the eraser on the source photo, erasing merely a tiny bit of the outline you lot drew at a fourth dimension, until the final photo looks right.
  • If the photo merge just isn't working right, try switching the photos when possible, making the final photo the source photograph and vice versa.

Thank you to Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 for sponsoring this mail service! All opinions are my own.
